Please remember to read all of the posts. :) If you are reading it today and forgot to last week, then please be sure to read the one written Friday night regarding homework.

Your child is bringing home the Disneyland newspaper to substitute for the Time for Kids homework on Wednesday. It was read together in class. Since the reading level is far above our current level of understanding (for all friends :) ), it was read together with the following focus goals:
- name of a newspaper, publication date, location (i.e. Buena Vista Bugle :))
- "headline" of a article - main idea of the article
- determining the main idea after listening to the article
- discussing the tone of the article
- connections to what we learned via the Mystery Bags and have continued - "inferences"
- using context clues to determine the meaning (see labels on your child's newspapers)
- highlighting clues (evidence) to support our ideas
- key words that connect to what we are learning - "language of the discipline"

William Joyce was introduced as our author with the first book being "Dinosaur Bob".
??? Who is Dinosaur Bob?
??? Where is he from? Where did he go? Where does he live now?
??? What did the family do with Dinosaur Bob?
??? What was one problem in the story? What was the solution?
??? Was the story fiction or nonfiction? How can you prove that?
??? Inference - Do you think Bob is a carnivore or an herbivore? (If your child says "junkivore" - congratulations! Your child was paying attention to our inference discussion. :) If your child says herbivore due to the flat teeth, then your child was paying attention to the inference we made based on the detailed illustrations.
??? What did people share about dinosaurs today?

Linking Dinosaur Bob to our BLAST Wall, we used some vocabulary from the story to:
- identify words that begin with the same sound as ____
- practice blending chunks across unknown words
- clap syllables then write the word with syllable breaks
- determining a word used differently in England within the sentence - context clues for meaning - "a smashing idea" (meaning = clever )
- sound matching

On Monday mornings, your child goes to Jiji Lab and music.
??? What did you do in music class today?
??? What did you do in Jiji Lab?
??? How does Jiji relate to what you did with your Tech Time today?

Today on the BAM Wall, we had some fun discoveries. The activities span all areas of math including an understanding of numbers, counting patterns, symmetry, patterns, place value, and equivalent equations.

Please send in the form that was attached to the small packet from BTSN, because the room parents are ready to make the roster. We need you as well. :) :) :) Thank you!
