Did you know that there is a bone cycle similar to the rock cycle? Jordan's parents came in to teach a lesson on the skeletal system and made that fabulous segue. :) It was so fun! We now have a 25th student as well, although he'll be much quieter than the rest of us. Your child should be able to tell you all about him (or her). Your child should also be able to tell you about the following:
* why we have a skeleton
* who has more bones - children or adults - and why (How many?)
* how the skeleton is the same for all mammals.
* how the number of bones in our neck compares to the number of bones in the neck of a giraffe -and why
* about observing real xrays
* different bones by name - largest bone in our body and the smallest
* how to take care of our bones - which mineral, what foods, etc.
* why we need to take care of our bones
* how fun it is to learn from experts with authentic tools of the trade :)
Your child also finished his/her study of the rock cycle and how it affects the Earth changing over time. How? Hopefully, your child will tell you all about his/her screencast and the creativity used to make the ending today.
Your child might also be able to tell you about the 4 C's that we incorporate into everything we do to help give him/her an edge in teh future: communication, creative thinking, collaboration, and creativity. Even better, your child should be able to tell you how we incorporated all four into our screencast as the individual "report" of information about geology and petrology.
Tomorrow begins our application of rock knowledge to the monuments and memorials of America. The flipped videos were there last week and many watched them early. Thank you! It really adds to the discussion! Since one video was the time lapse video and perfectly solidifies our link from rocks to presidents (government), it was fun to have a new video shared with me last night. If you check the "interactive" link, you'll see the new time lapse video (2 min) of the Space Shuttle Endeavour's move though Los Angeles to the Science Center. It's very cool and so timely with the time lapse video this week. Enjoy!
