Stapled to your child's folder today is a sealed envelope containing your child's report card and a customized list of ideas for summer learning maintenance. Your child knows it can only be opened by you. :) It is being sent home two days early in case there is an error which is possible considering the very late nights during which they were created. :) If you feel there might be an error, then please send a text alerting me to look for the report card tomorrow. Otherwise, your child can keep the daily folder at home.

Yearbooks were distributed at the end of the day to the children who purchased them. Your child's name is on the back bottom of the yearbook.

Tomorrow morning our fifth grade buddies will be promoting to middle school. We will be there to help them celebrate. It also happens to be the class I taught when I returned to the classroom after two years of mentoring teachers on this campus full time. They were a special group of kindergartners and a terrific group of fifth grade buddies.

On a different note . . .

Yes- it's a TED. You can laugh! :)

The video below says it all.

It shows our philosophy of this year that will expand into next. Watch carefully for the examples of engineering at the end. We explored and created them all thanks to our team approach - built with legos, launched rockets, and built then redesigned catapults.

"All schools need to be teaching our children to be makers. A nation that doesn't create is forced to consume. To the nation that does create, the sky's the limit." Marita Cheng - TEDxSydney May 2013

Next year: The "STEAM Team" will be even stronger makers integrating all areas of the curriculum and incorporating computer science design concepts. :)

By the way, next year's group should really be called the "STEAM Dream Team" . . .
