??? What artist did you learn about today for Meet the Masters on Monday? (Norman Rockwell)
??? How did you do on your spelling pretest for the next set of words? Where can we go to practice them? Do you remember your dictation sentence or what it was about?
??? What present did you get from two friends in your class that relates to rocks? What can we do with it?
??? How were the heritage presentations today? Who gave one? What did you learn about that friend?
The homework has been adjusted to a two week cycle to match the two week spelling. The quality of the inquiry research was entering a downward trend, so I thought mixing things up a bit would be a wise decision. :) While on the topic of homework, the videos were uploaded last night. If you choose to start early, they are on the "flipped" page. Can you figure out the segue? (It took a lot of time to creatively link those topics. :) )
Spelling City has been added to the "interactive" tab. After checking last night to see how it has been utilized, it was exciting to see some friends really using it to its full advantage. Amazing! The data shows what games are played, how they do, and the frequency of use per child in addition to the spelling scores. It's more "proof with evidence" of who chooses to go above the minimum. Impressive! :)
FYI - One child said it was "1" (from class time), because he didn't have an ipad. Spelling City is on the web, so it is accessible from any tablet, computer, or smartphone.
To all the families who were in Round 1 of family heritage presentations - congratulations! Amazing effort, planning, and organization on your part. Every child was incredibly successful at teaching us about your family heritage. It was so fun! Please look at your child's folder. Each child's speech/presentation was recorded, uploaded to YouTube, and translated to a QR code. Yes - even those who did it today (my lunch break challenge). A QR code of your child's speech is on the back of his/her award. The posters are hanging in our room. Enjoy!
To the families in Round 2, your child will benefit from being members of the audience and support staff. :) Your presentations will take place after we do our special "long ago" projects and before we go off track in December. They will involve your child's family traditions in winter (holidays or events). As in the past, your child's videos will also be uploaded and converted to QR codes to treasure long after the presentation is "over". :)
Enjoy your three day weekend.
