There's no way to follow a day like yesterday . . . :)

Today Kimberly, Danielle, and Miranda came to help in the afternoon. They will generously donate their time and enthusiasm to us again all day tomorrow. What terrific role models to come back to my classroom year after year whenever their school is closed or has an early day. All three attend Los Al High and went to Weaver. Amazing girls! They read Jane Goodall minibooks with small groups and applied everything they learned about thinking with depth and complexity (icons) over the years while small groups met with me for writing. Kimberly was in my kindergarten class (no math allowed! :)) and will leave us all for college in the fall with 7 acceptance letters already. Hooray for her! :)

It was another fun day as we met in small groups for math practice, read an ebook together about Jane Goodall, wrote about her life to add to our biographies, and created a pie chart of information about ourselves to combine personal information with fractions. Your child also explored the art form of designing a collage as he/she created a border out of photos of the year in under 15 minutes. They loved reviewing what they saw in the pictures, sharing with friends, and figuring out where to cut it out to make it fit.

Tomorrow there is a spelling test. The words are available on Spelling City for practice. Enjoy the beautiful afternoon. :)
