What a fun filled day!

Jordan's parents taught us all about the circulatory system focusing on the heart muscle. That's an understatement! They had the children so excited about blood vessels, the heart, and taking care of their bodies. In fact, when the amazing experience was over most children raised their hands saying they wanted to be doctors. :) After a terrific whole class lesson on how the blood circulates through our bodies, they were treated to hands-on experiences that involved the real tools of doctors. Hooray! They used oximeters and stethoscopes on each other in small groups. Did you hear about our human circuits? They even brought in a real EKG machine! Yes, a few willing patients had an EKG taken. What a memory! :) I wish my childhood had those experiences! We are all so fortunate. Thank you!

Later in the day, the children worked in pairs to investigate one of your old electronics that were donated for our hands-on inspections. Wow! Their vocabulary, ENTHUSIASM, and sheer delight were incredible. They removed, unscrewed, uncovered, and were surprised by many discoveries along the way. The best part was their enthusiasm and natural curiosity to unravel how things work. Thank you for "donating" your broken items. (We have enough. :) ). It was such a memorable and lively experience with so much applied learning.

Our day ended with as much excitement as the other parts as we had Matthew's dad and Ryan's mom teach and guide us through an art lesson based on the style of Winslow Homer. It was funny, engaging, and creative. Your child's artwork is already on the wall ready to surprise him/her tomorrow morning. What incredible artists we have in our room. ;) Thank you to the parents who helped with this activity. The lesson beautifully integrated our thinking with depth and complexity (icons), areas of study, and prior learning. Thank you!!!

Here are a few photos for your enjoyment. The rest will be out for Open House next week.

FYI: There was a time change:  6:00-7:00 school wide not 6:30-7:30.
