Today your child put his/her understanding of circuits into practice as each child was in a self-selected small group to build a circuit related form of transportation or construction tool without any assistance. It involved problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration, reading functional print, and applying electrical engineering concepts. Photos will follow for your enjoyment. :) Thank you to the families who donated the circuit building kits for making it all possible! :)

We began learning about Jane Goodall today. She will be our focus in the upcoming two weeks as we explore solar power related to caring for the environment, how she has changed the world in a positive way, the geographic region of Africa, and link later to life science. We have a fun math, science, and electrical engineering activity that directly links us from circuits and electricity to solar power and Jane Goodall. :) (Are you laughing at me? :) )

In math, we are really focusing on checking our work carefully in addition and subtraction, building concepts of groups and sharing among groups, and understanding fractional amounts. Our friend of the day activities help us review fractions daily and we will focus on fractions of wholes (Ex: If a pizza has 8 slices and we eat 3, how many pieces are left?) and fractional portions of totals (ex: Out of all Shining Stars, how many are wearing Weaver blue today?).
